Cancer Genetic Testing

Step 1: Your First Consultation
You can book online or get in touch with our team directly.
During this appointment, we will:
-
Explore your medical background and any current symptoms or concerns.
-
Help you identify which cancer‑related blood tests may be appropriate for you.
-
Clearly outline what each test can and cannot detect.
-
Review all costs so you have complete transparency from the start.
-
Answer your questions about cancer screening, genetic testing, or ongoing monitoring.
-
Support you in deciding whether cancer blood testing is the right choice for you.
Step 2: Taking Your Blood Sample
Most blood tests are arranged within 48 hours of your consultation.
Where your sample can be taken:
The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Private Clinic, 65 Pembroke Place, Liverpool, L7 8YA, UK
What happens during the appointment:
-
A routine blood draw, similar to any standard blood test.
-
The procedure takes only a few minutes.
-
Your sample is sent directly to the laboratory for specialist analysis.
-
If your test requires a tissue sample (for certain genetic analyses), we will coordinate this with your hospital—no additional procedures are required from you.
Step 3: Specialist Laboratory Testing
Your sample is examined using advanced technologies that may include:
-
Circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) analysis
-
Circulating tumour cell detection
-
Tumour marker assessment
-
Comprehensive genetic profiling
All tests are carried out in accredited laboratories with rigorous quality controls.
Typical turnaround time: 7–14 days, depending on the specific test.
Step 4: Your Results Appointment
During your results consultation, we will:
-
Talk through your results in clear, understandable language.
-
Explain what the findings mean in relation to your risk, diagnosis, treatment, or monitoring.
-
Discuss how the results apply to your personal situation.
-
Advise on any recommended next steps, such as imaging, biopsies, treatment planning, or future screening.
-
Provide a written report for you to share with your NHS or private healthcare team.
If your results indicate a concern:
-
We can arrange urgent imaging (CT, MRI, PET) when required.
-
We liaise with your existing cancer specialists to ensure continuity of care.
-
You receive clear guidance on treatment pathways.
-
Ongoing support is available throughout your cancer journey.
If your results are reassuring:
-
We discuss whether continued screening would be beneficial.
-
We advise on appropriate intervals for future testing.
-
You gain confidence knowing you are taking proactive steps toward early detection.
