Manx Lung Cancer Screening Program

Lung Cancer Screen

Pathway for the Manx Lung Cancer Screening Program

Initial Pathway

Step 1: Your First Consultation and Risk Assessment

Step 2: Diagnostic Action

  • Trigger: If the risk assessment from either of the two calculators meets the threshold to trigger a screen.

  • Action: The patient proceeds to receive a Low-Dose CT (LDCT) scan.

Step 3: Follow-up and Subsequent Imaging

  • Subsequent Action: Following the LDCT, the patient proceeds to a CT scan (if required by the subsequent algorithm).

  • Follow-up: The patient meets with the same professional  to follow up and review the results according to the established algorithm.

If your results indicate a concern:

  • We can arrange urgent imaging (CT, MRI, PET) when required.

  • We liaise with your existing cancer specialists to ensure continuity of care.

  • You receive clear guidance on treatment pathways.

  • Ongoing support is available throughout your cancer journey.

If your results are reassuring:

  • We discuss whether continued screening would be beneficial.

  • We advise on appropriate intervals for future testing.

  • You gain confidence knowing you are taking proactive steps toward early detection.

  • Circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) analysis

  • Circulating tumour cell detection
